[ CEMENT to cost 10% more come May 1]  ( latest news ! )

The price of bagged cement is due to rise by 10% to between RM15.50-RM16.50 per bag from May 1. Each bag weighs 50kg. Steel millers and cement manufacturers in Malaysia face higher production cost as world oil price has been on the rise. Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) president Ng Kee Leen said, “The cement manufacturers  have wanted to raise prices for the past year.” Builders are thinking of buying raw materials like cement from abroad as they are cheaper. Following this, MBAM said pricier steel bars and cement would mean costlier construction projects, be it government funded or jobs procured from property developers. (BT)

EMPURAU (Iban Language), the “Unforgetable” (Wang Pu Liau in Mandarin) and most expensive fish caught in the deep Borneo Rivers of Sabah and Sarawak is sold at an average price of RM1500 per kilogram at restaurants in the peninsula !

The pictures below from top clockwise show a wild Empurau caught followed by top right hand it being “slaughted and cleaned”, next down on the botton left shows the Empurau being cooked in Hong Kong Style (what a waste !) and bottom right picture shows a deep fried Empurau Scale “Keropok” ! Yummy ? You bet !

It was told that in the mid 70s when in a kampong in the Interior of Sabah where a VVIP Minister was present for a function & after that a big fest of local foods followed.

When the Empurau fish was served, the Minister even ate the scales but others from the peninsula just couldn’t do it and were told that they did not know how to appreciate good fish.

This type of fishes were caught in the Interior Rivers but not cooked in Chinese style but in kampong style.

The texture was very fine & sweet. ^_-   !     ^_-   !

It was said that the empurau comes from the same family as that of the kelah species that are found in Peninsula Malaya fresh water rivers but because of over fishing here, the bigger species of the kelah fish are close to extinction !

In Sarawak, the empurau is caught mostly by the natives from the Rejang,Baram,Limbang & Batang Ai rivers and was widely available in timber camps.

In the restaurants, the head of the fish would cost about RM 500-700 (the best part being just behind the gills) depending on the size.Empurau can reach up to 20 kg. It was sold at abt RM 200 per kilo but the natives at the timber camps would sell them for only RM 50 per kilo.

Some were eventually cultured but they have that fishy smell and their meat was tougher.

The ones caught from the Baram rivers have fine, creamy white flesh as they are always swimming against the current.. something salmon..

There are 3 species of empurau; empurau burak, empurau merah and empurau chelum.
It is sometimes mistaken for the semah.

In Peninsula Malaysia, up in Kuala Lumpur,

KL Restaurant Price Tag : RM1100 – RM1800 / KG

This Fish is around 3Kg

Enjoy and Savour !

Feng shui tips for the year of the Tiger

Feng shui tips for the year of the Tiger

The art of living with nature and harnessing its enormous powers for the benefit of mankind has long been the key of the human survival.

As science and technology advances, mankind began to learn the advantages of living harmoniously with nature and the disadvantages of going against its powers.

Thus, over thousands of years, the Chinese have practised the art of environology, otherwise known as geomancy or feng shui.

Environology is the science of harnessing nature’s powers through learning how to understand it, mimic it and living with it harmoniously, said feng shui master Joe Choo.

“Just like any living matter, if we go against it, it would react. If you go against nature, it would result in natural disasters.

“Feng Shui is not related to religion. If you refer to feng shui texts, there is no mention of religion or placement of furniture. The actual science does not involve having ornaments, but you can utilise living matters which exudes energy such as live plants, crystals or water features to enhance your living or work areas.

“These are natural energy forces, which can be used to harness nature’s positive energy and bring it into your living or work areas,” said Joe.

This year, the industries which would do well are those related to wood, water and fire, while earth and metal industries would face challenges.

Wood industries are those related to education, agriculture, forestry, horticulture, paper and pulp industry as well as furniture. Water industries are those related to river management , fisheries , shipping lines, travel and communications. Meanwhile, industries related to energy source, charitable activities, healthcare, hospitals, religion and unconventional businesses are classified as fire industries.

Metal industries are those related to finance (banking, wealth management, currencies and mint), shipyard, scrap metal and weapons.

Industries related to property, building infrastructure, spas, insurance and trust are classified as Earth industries.

“If you would like to harness the positive energies in the year of the Tiger, you should wear more green, red and blue, although the Chinese have this ‘pantang’, where if a man wears a green hat, it means that his wife’s having an affair!” said Joe with a laugh.

TAI-SHUI

In feng shui, the positions of the planets also come into play. Tai-shui refers to the position of Jupiter, the largest of the nine planets.

During the ancient times, Jupiter is known as the yearly planet.

“It takes 12 years to complete its circle around earth. Being the biggest planet, its gravity creates a pulling and pushing effect, which creates negative energy. This year, it notches against the Tiger position.”

Because of the negative energy, Joe cautions those born in the year of the Tiger to be careful this year, as it will present more challenges for them. But all hope is not lost as the negative energy can be diffused.

“Just place a living plant, clear or white crystal or a water feature between 322.5° and 377.5° (northwest sector) in your home. This should help to diffuse the negative energy.”

SAM-SART

Otherwise known as the ‘Three Killers’, these are the animal signs whose positions are on the opposite side of the animal sign of the year.

This year, the three killer signs are the Rat, Monkey and Dragon.

“Though the three killers are considered to be bad, the negative energy can be utilised to create great wealth. This year the three killers are situated at southwest 232.5°-247.5°, north 352.5°-7.5° and southeast 112.5°-127.5°.”

If your entrance is situated at any of the three directions, you may choose one of the following methods to neutralise the effect and reverse the bad to good.

“You can close the entrance and use another. Or you could place a movable partition at the door entrance, either on the outside or the inside. I would like to advise home owners whose doors are located between 352.5° – 7.5° (northeast centre) to attach a strip of wood or metal on top of the door frame to reduce the size of the door. This would diffuse challenges such as family quarrels, health issues, robberies and other problems,” said Joe.

Those who are born in the year of the Rat can place crystal, living plant or water feature at 32.5°- 37.5° in their house to diffuse the negative energy.

“If these steps are taken, it would help to enhance your life in the year of the Tiger,” said Joe.

CLSA FENG SHUI INDEX 2010

February 16th, 2010

HONG KONG: The Dow Jones Index gained significantly in the previous year of the Golden Tiger in 1950, but Tiger years are typically marked by dramatic changes and even upheaval, said CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets in its 16th CLSA Feng Shui Index (CLSA FSI).

In the report with a tongue-in-cheek look at what 2010 held for equities, commodities, property, celebrities, and the zodiac signs in the months ahead, CLSA cautioned investors to view 2010, much like the tiger itself, as an energetic and powerful, but impulsive and risky, year ahead.

“Those trading equities should get set to ride the wild tiger. The markets will be volatile with a surge in the first month followed by a decline that turns upwards in June, dips, and then swings up again in September to see the Golden Tiger roar by January 2011,” it said in a statement.

With this Tiger year’s heavenly stem being metal, CLSA said gold was set to have a great run and it predicted that it could break US$2,000 (RM6,820) per ounce.

“In fact, commodities of all stripes will fare well including silver, copper, zinc and aluminium. Those regarded as ‘wood’ will also do very well: pulp and paper, clothing and pharmaceuticals.

“‘Fire’ and ‘earth’ elements, thus technology, power, telecoms and property will have a good yearbut ‘water’ related sectors will be challenged, translating to a bumpy time for shipping, airlines, logistics, autos and transport,” it said.

The following is CLSA’s month-by-month take on the year.

February would bring fantastic opportunities for those sharp enough to recognise them and fast enough to grab them.

• March signals the start of three bumpy months, but there’ll be no shortage of good trades for those brave enough.

In April, the influence of the stars of misfortune is especially disruptive, while the first few weeks of May will be feisty.

• June heralds a great month but maybe not the best for betting, although the June 21 summer solstice is especially auspicious and gold may surge.

• July is more relaxed with time to enact long-cherished plans and projects.

August sees the return of volatility and precious metals look set to break upwards, especially gold, silver and copper.

In September, the trend is upwards and a mixture of considered and idle speculations offers the possibility of eye-popping returns.

October is possibly one of the best months of the year, with life returning to the markets. It marks the return of a sustained drive upwards that continues into November, December and January.

• Each of the last three months features an auspicious date; Nov 17, Dec 8, Jan 16.

• In terms of the Zodiac, a great year lies ahead for those born in the years of the Dragon, Sheep and particularly, the Horse. A relatively good year is in store for Rats, Cows, Rabbits, Roosters, Dogs and Pigs, while it will be a bumpy ride for Tigers, Snakes and Monkeys,” it said.

CLSA said the Golden Tiger year would favour China’s wealthiest woman, Nine Paper’s Zhang Yin, a Rooster in the Chinese zodiac.

“She will take on some of the toughest competition of her career and come out on top. For China’s wealthiest man, BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu, a Horse, the sun will continue to shine as it has since Warren Buffett invested into his company and set the price soaring.

“And for Buffett, also a horse, the future looks just as bright. He is about to enter the most financially lucky period of his life. Expect some significant and unusual developments in Berkshire Hathaway’s already substantial interest in China,” it said.

“As the Chinese saying goes: ‘Once on a tiger’s back, it is hard to get off’. But if you can hang on, it is certainly the safest place to be. Enjoy the ride and Happy New Year.”

Marking the end of the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Eid al-Adha or the ‘Feast of Sacrifice’ (known locally as Hari Raya Haji) is one of the most important feasts in the Islamic calendar. The three-day festival commemorates Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to obey God by sacrificing his son – although he was later allowed to sacrifice a ram in his son’s place. In remembrance of this, a cow or ram is usually sacrificed as part of the religious celebrations with a portion of the meat being donated to the poor, sick or needy.
